Divided into to mainlands, the Peninsular Malaysia houses 2 Federal Territories, Kuala Lumpur which is also the capital, Putrajaya the government administrative center and 11 other states. They are Kedah, Perlis, Perak, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan. East Malaysia houses two states, the oil rich Sarawak and Sabah as well as one Federal Territory in Labuan.
The Peninsular is sandwiched between two countries, Thailand in the north and Singapore in the south while the Indonesian island of Sumatra is in the west, divided by the Straits of Malacca. The South China Sea splits Peninsular Malaysia with East Malaysia of which the two states sandwiches Brunei Darulsallam in the middle. The Indonesian region of Kalimantan completes the residences of Borneo Island.
