Political analyst warns that unclear roles in PN leadership may spark internal conflict.

KUALA LUMPUR : A political analyst has urged Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders to clearly define the powers and responsibilities of the newly proposed PN presidential council to prevent internal rivalries, which he described as a potential “clash of captains.”

According to the analyst, the council’s creation without a clear division of authority among party leaders could lead to disagreements and hinder decision-making. “If the roles are not clearly defined, there is a risk of overlapping authority, competing agendas, and internal disputes that may weaken the coalition’s effectiveness,” he said.

The PN coalition recently announced plans to form a presidential council, which would include top leaders from its component parties. While the council aims to provide strategic direction and streamline decision-making, questions remain about who will hold final authority on key issues and how conflicts will be resolved.

Observers note that the success of the presidential council depends on transparency, clear responsibilities, and mutual respect among party leaders. The analyst suggested that public communication regarding the council’s role could also help reduce speculation and build confidence within PN ranks.

“The coalition must ensure that the council strengthens cohesion rather than creating friction,” he added.
