PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he welcomes the exposure of cartels operating within various sectors, stressing that dismantling entrenched networks of corruption is crucial to strengthening governance, accountability and public confidence.
Anwar said the government remains firm in its commitment to combating corruption and abuse of power, regardless of the individuals or groups involved, adding that no one is above the law.
“I am glad that these cartels are being exposed. This shows that our enforcement agencies are functioning independently and courageously in upholding justice and integrity,” he said during a press conference today.
He noted that cartel activities often thrive in environments marked by weak oversight, lack of transparency and political interference, and emphasised that the current administration is determined to eliminate such conditions through comprehensive institutional reforms.
According to Anwar, the exposure of these networks not only helps recover public funds but also sends a strong message that the government will not tolerate corruption, profiteering or manipulation of public resources for private gain.
“Cartels distort markets, burden consumers, weaken competition and ultimately harm the rakyat. Breaking their grip is essential to ensuring fairness and economic sustainability,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that ongoing investigations and enforcement actions demonstrate the government’s seriousness in pursuing systemic reforms, particularly in sectors prone to monopoly, rent-seeking and procurement abuse.
He also urged civil servants, business players and the public to cooperate with authorities by reporting any suspicious activities, assuring that whistleblowers will be protected under existing legal frameworks.
Anwar reiterated that combating cartels is a long-term effort that requires political will, strong institutions and public support, adding that the government will continue to enhance transparency, strengthen enforcement agencies and improve regulatory mechanisms.
“The fight against corruption and cartels is not selective. It is about restoring trust, protecting public interest and ensuring that development benefits all, not just a privileged few,” he said.
The government’s intensified crackdown on cartels forms part of its broader reform agenda aimed at building a transparent, accountable and people-centred administration.
