KUALA LUMPUR : A Bersatu lawmaker has strongly criticised the government’s frequent changes in education policies, urging authorities to stop treating children like “lab rats” as they struggle to adapt to shifting rules and requirements.
Speaking in Parliament today, the MP expressed concern over the impact of inconsistent policies on students’ learning outcomes and overall wellbeing. “Children need stability and clarity. Constant changes in curriculum, entry ages, and assessment methods disrupt their education and place unnecessary stress on them,” the lawmaker said.
The MP highlighted recent controversies surrounding the proposed changes in Year 1 entry age and preschool programs, noting that parents and educators alike are left confused. “We must prioritise the welfare of our children rather than experiment with policies that may do more harm than good,” the MP added.
Education stakeholders have echoed similar concerns, warning that frequent policy reversals undermine teacher preparation, resource planning, and student readiness. Experts suggest that long-term planning and consultation with educators, parents, and child development specialists are essential before implementing major reforms.
The MP concluded by calling on the Ministry of Education to ensure that any future policies are carefully considered, evidence-based, and communicated clearly to all stakeholders. “Our children deserve consistency, not constant experimentation,” the MP stressed.
This statement has sparked discussions among parents, educators, and political observers, highlighting the growing demand for stability and thoughtful policymaking in Malaysia’s education system.
