KUALA LUMPUR : Authorities are investigating a childcare centre following allegations that an autistic boy was subjected to abuse while under the centre’s care. The investigation comes amid growing concerns over the safety and welfare of children with special needs in early learning facilities.

According to sources, the incident allegedly occurred over a period of several weeks, prompting parents to report the matter to the police after noticing unusual marks and behavioural changes in the child. Investigators have confirmed that they are examining both the physical and emotional welfare of the boy as part of the ongoing probe.

The centre, which caters to children aged three to six, has been temporarily closed pending the outcome of the investigation. Officials have also stated that staff members implicated in the allegations are being questioned to determine their involvement and whether proper care protocols were followed.

“Every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment, and we take allegations of abuse very seriously,” said a spokesperson for the police. “Our priority is to ensure the child’s welfare and to determine if any criminal action is warranted.”

Child protection agencies have also been notified and are providing support to the family. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development has indicated that stricter monitoring and licensing measures may be enforced for childcare facilities, particularly those catering to children with special needs.

Parents in the community expressed shock and concern over the reports, calling for thorough investigations and accountability. Advocacy groups for children with disabilities emphasised the importance of ensuring safe, trained, and empathetic staff in all early childhood care centres.

Authorities have urged anyone with additional information about the case to come forward to assist with the investigation. The probe is ongoing, and further updates are expected as investigators gather more evidence.
