ISTANBUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed concern over the current condition of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, following the former prime minister’s recent admission to the National Heart Institute (IJN).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he conveyed the matter to Malaysian media after a recent meeting with Erdogan.
“President Tayyip Erdogan also enquired about Tun Dr Mahathir’s health. I briefed him based on the information provided by the doctors, and he joined in conveying his well wishes and prayers for his recovery and safety,” Anwar said
.Anwar said Erdogan also expressed his intention to personally contact Dr Mahathir to enquire about his condition and convey his prayers once the former prime minister’s health shows further improvement.
Last Tuesday, media reports said Dr Mahathir was referred to the National Heart Institute after a fall at his residence in Seri Kembangan, Selangor. His press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, later confirmed that the statesman would require several weeks of treatment and monitoring at the hospital.
For the record, Dr Mahathir was previously admitted to IJN in July last year due to fatigue after attending an event in Putrajaya, just days after celebrating his 100th birthday.
