KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer Tan Sri Yusoff Abdul Rahman has raised concerns over why the Prime Minister and Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak were not summoned for questioning in connection with investigations currently being conducted by authorities. He said this situation raises questions about equality and transparency in the investigative process, particularly when it involves high-profile figures in government.
According to Yusoff, all individuals connected to ongoing investigations should be subject to the same legal procedures, regardless of rank or political position. He emphasized that any perceived inconsistency could undermine public confidence in law enforcement institutions and create a perception of preferential treatment.
He added that authorities should provide clear criteria for summoning individuals for questioning, including timing, evidence considered, and reasons why certain figures are not called despite their apparent connection to the case. Transparency, he noted, is essential to prevent any perception of bias or political interference.
Political observers said Yusoff’s concerns highlight sensitive issues regarding law enforcement and fair justice in Malaysia. They noted that the decision to summon—or not summon—certain individuals can generate controversy and affect public trust in the legal system.
Yusoff urged the authorities to act fairly and consistently toward all individuals, regardless of their status. He emphasized that involving senior leaders in investigations requires maximum transparency so that the public views the process as impartial and just.
