LEEDS / LIVERPOOL, Dec 6–7, 2025 — Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has publicly criticized his own club and head coach Arne Slot after being left on the bench for three consecutive Premier League matches, saying he felt the club had “thrown me under the bus.”
The Egyptian star made the comments following Liverpool’s 3–3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday, in which he did not feature. Salah — who netted 34 goals and provided 18 assists last season — said he had contributed significantly to the club’s success, yet felt scapegoated for the team’s poor start to the campaign.
“I’m very, very disappointed … Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It seems like the club is throwing me under the bus.” - Salah
Salah went on to hint that his relationship with Slot has broken down completely, suggesting that the upcoming home match against Brighton & Hove Albion could be his final appearance for Liverpool before he leaves for national duty with Egypt for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Liverpool’s poor form this season — including only two wins in their last ten league games — has coincided with the club’s decision to bench their veteran forward, a move some view as tactical, but which has triggered growing speculation over Salah’s long‑term future at Anfield.
As debates intensify around squad strategy and player management, all eyes now turn to how Liverpool’s management will respond: whether they will try to reconcile with Salah, or brace for a potential exit that could mark the end of an era for one of their most decorated forwards.
