KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Indian Progressive Party (MIPP) has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to take immediate action to prevent any gatherings aimed at protesting so-called illegal places of worship, citing concerns over public safety and social harmony.
MIPP stressed that such actions risk inflaming racial and religious tensions and could provoke unnecessary conflicts in Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society. The party underscored that freedom of religion is constitutionally protected, and any attempt to disrupt community peace should be firmly addressed by law enforcement.
The party urged the police to ensure that all laws are observed and that any assembly with the potential to trigger conflict between communities is prohibited before it occurs. MIPP also called on the public to maintain tolerance and respect for the right of individuals to worship according to their beliefs.
Political observers describe MIPP’s call as a proactive measure to safeguard national harmony, particularly in light of heightened sensitivities surrounding illegal places of worship in some states. They emphasized the critical role of the police in preventing any actions that could threaten public safety.
