KUALA LUMPUR: PAS has no objection to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin chairing the proposed Perikatan Nasional (PN) presidential council, as discussions continue over the coalition’s leadership restructuring.

Party leaders said PAS remains focused on preserving unity and political stability within PN, emphasising that leadership arrangements should prioritise consensus and collective strength rather than individual positions.

They added that Muhyiddin, as PN’s founding chairman and a former prime minister, continues to command respect among grassroots supporters and coalition leaders, making his involvement in a key advisory role both natural and strategic.

The proposed presidential council is expected to function as PN’s highest decision-making and advisory body, guiding the coalition’s long-term political direction and resolving major strategic issues.

PAS sources stressed that the party is open to flexible leadership structures, provided they enhance cooperation and prevent internal divisions, especially as PN prepares for upcoming state elections and the 16th General Election (GE16).

Political observers view PAS’s stance as a sign of pragmatism, aimed at maintaining coalition harmony while acknowledging shifting power dynamics within PN.

The move is also seen as a compromise solution that allows PAS to strengthen its leadership role within PN without sidelining Muhyiddin, whose influence remains significant among Bersatu members and PN supporters.
