KUALA LUMPUR : Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Sanusi Junid has clarified that the position of PN chairman cannot be abolished as it is protected under the coalition’s constitution. He said any proposal to remove or restructure the role must comply strictly with PN’s internal rules.

Sanusi’s statement comes amid reports of internal discussions within PN over a potential reorganisation of its leadership structure following recent resignations. He emphasised that the chairman’s role remains vital for guiding the coalition and ensuring stability among component parties.

He stressed that any changes to the leadership framework must be formally approved through the proper constitutional channels, warning that unilateral decisions to eliminate the position would be invalid and could undermine coalition unity.

Sanusi also highlighted the importance of consultation among PN’s component parties, saying that the chairman provides a central point of coordination and authority within the coalition. He added that maintaining the post ensures orderly decision-making and strengthens PN’s collective governance.

He concluded by urging all parties to respect the coalition’s constitutional provisions and to work together to preserve cohesion while navigating leadership transitions.
