After returning from the United Kingdom yesterday, Muhyiddin Yassin was warmly received by party leaders and supporters at the airport.

Amid ongoing speculation over who might replace him as Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, the Bersatu president received a visit and a mandate from PAS earlier this morning.

Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman shared a photograph of Muhyiddin with PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, accompanied by a brief caption that suggested a positive tone.

“Alhamdulillah. Insya-Allah,” wrote Syahir, who is also political secretary to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

Earlier, PN was seen to be facing internal tensions following an administrative crisis in Perlis, which resulted in a change of menteri besar from a PAS leader to a Bersatu representative.

This was followed by Muhyiddin’s decision to step down as PN chairman.

When contacted, Syahir said the meeting between Muhyiddin and Samsuri was merely a casual discussion, adding that a PN meeting would be held in the near future.

“We will hold a full (PN) meeting soon. Today’s was just a casual meeting after Tan Sri Muhyiddin returned from the UK.

Syahir, however, declined to confirm or deny when asked whether the meeting was linked to speculation over Ahmad Samsuri being nominated to replace Muhyiddin as PN chairman.

He also said a PN Supreme Council meeting would be convened soon, but did not provide further details.
