KUALA LUMPUR : The government today began distributing Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) Phase 1 for 2026 to approximately five million eligible recipients nationwide, Prime Minister announced.
The Prime Minister said the first phase of the cash assistance programme targets low- and middle-income groups, including households, senior citizens and single individuals who meet the eligibility criteria, as part of ongoing efforts to ease the burden of rising living costs.
According to him, STR remains a key pillar of the government’s social support framework, designed to provide timely financial relief to groups most affected by economic pressures and higher prices of essential goods and services.
“The early disbursement of STR Phase 1 is intended to ensure that assistance reaches those in need without delay, allowing recipients to better manage their immediate financial commitments,” he said in a statement today.
The assistance is being channelled in stages through multiple methods, including direct crediting into registered bank accounts. Recipients without bank accounts may collect the aid through designated counters under established procedures.
The Prime Minister added that the government will continue to refine the implementation of STR to ensure the delivery system remains efficient, transparent and well-targeted, while preventing eligible beneficiaries from being left out.
He also advised the public to verify their eligibility status through official platforms and to remain cautious of false information or fraudulent activities exploiting the STR programme.
STR Phase 1 marks the first of several planned disbursements for 2026, reflecting the government’s continued commitment to strengthening social safety nets and supporting households amid ongoing economic challenges.
