KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has intensified enforcement operations at the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market following multiple reports of foreign traders allegedly flouting established regulations.
According to an official DBKL statement, stricter measures are now in place to ensure all traders comply with licensing requirements, hygiene standards, and safety regulations within the market. Enforcement officers are conducting daily patrols and surprise inspections to ensure full compliance.
“DBKL is committed to ensuring that every trader, including foreign nationals, follow the rules in place. This is not merely a legal matter, but one that affects the safety, hygiene, and comfort of market visitors,” said a DBKL spokesperson.
The increased enforcement comes in response to complaints that some foreign traders did not display valid licenses, stored goods unlawfully, or failed to maintain clean trading areas. DBKL emphasized that these regulations exist not to burden traders but to maintain a safe, orderly, and well-managed market environment.
Additionally, DBKL is working closely with local security authorities to monitor daily activities and address issues such as the sale of counterfeit items or illegal occupation of trading spaces. Enforcement officers also provide ongoing guidance to traders on the importance of complying with local laws and the long-term benefits for their businesses.
Local traders have welcomed the move, noting that it promotes discipline and maintains a more organized market atmosphere. “With stricter enforcement, we can operate more comfortably, and customers feel safe when shopping,” said one local trader.
DBKL stressed that tough action will continue against traders who repeatedly violate regulations, including potential fines or temporary closure of their stalls. At the same time, all traders are urged to cooperate for the common good, prioritizing safety, hygiene, and transparency in market operations.
The initiative is expected to have a positive impact not only on market management but also on maintaining the reputation of the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market as one of the largest, most orderly, and user-friendly trading hubs in the capital.
