KUALA LUMPUR : Transport Minister Anthony Loke has outlined three key focus areas that will guide the agenda of the Ministry of Transport (MOT) throughout 2026, with an emphasis on improving safety, strengthening public transport, and advancing sustainable mobility.
Speaking at a ministry briefing, Loke said the government remains committed to enhancing road safety and enforcement, particularly in reducing accident rates and improving compliance with traffic regulations. He stressed that stricter monitoring, improved infrastructure, and public education campaigns would be intensified to build a safer transport environment.
The second focus area involves upgrading and expanding public transport services, especially in urban and suburban areas. Loke said efforts would continue to enhance rail and bus connectivity, improve service reliability, and ensure affordable access for commuters. He added that integrated transport planning would be prioritised to ease congestion and improve daily travel efficiency.
The third pillar centres on sustainable and green transportation, including the promotion of electric vehicles, cleaner fuel usage, and environmentally friendly infrastructure. According to Loke, the ministry aims to support Malaysia’s climate goals while ensuring the transport sector remains competitive and innovative.
He said the ministry would work closely with other agencies, state governments, and industry players to ensure smooth implementation of these priorities. “Our goal is to deliver a transport system that is safe, efficient, inclusive and future-ready,” he added.
