KUALA LUMPUR: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) continues to play a crucial role in developing a skilled and adaptable workforce to support Malaysia’s industrial transformation agenda under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).

Observers say TVET’s strong emphasis on hands-on training and industry-relevant skills gives graduates a practical edge as labour market demands evolve. This approach is seen as increasingly important as industries adopt advanced technologies, automation and more sustainable production models.

As NIMP 2030 focuses on moving Malaysia towards higher-value and innovation-driven sectors, TVET institutions are expected to supply talent for areas such as advanced manufacturing, green technology, digital services and technical entrepreneurship. Better alignment between training programmes and real industry needs is viewed as key to narrowing existing skills gaps.

Beyond meeting workforce requirements, TVET is also recognised as a pathway for social mobility, offering young people diverse and flexible career options. Graduates are no longer limited to entry-level technical roles, with opportunities expanding into supervisory, specialist and business ownership positions.

Analysts note that sustained policy support, quality assurance and close collaboration between government, training providers and the private sector are essential to ensure TVET remains relevant and competitive. With consistent implementation, TVET is expected to serve as a cornerstone in building a resilient and future-ready workforce in line with the goals of NIMP 2030.
